Netball is a team game, played by two teams of seven players. The aim of the game is to score more goals than your opposition, a bit like basketball but not as rough. There's more passing too, because you can't run with the ball. Netball is still the only women's team sport and enjoys weekly television coverage on Sky Sports. It is a hugely popular game amongst girls and women, and is rapidly growing in popularity with boys and men who play in mixed Netball games.

Netball is played by more than 20 million people in more than 80 countries and has been played in England since 1893. Netball has been recognized as an Olympic sport since 1995, although it has never been played at the Summer Olympics, there is an effort by politicians and senior people in the game to get it included. Hopefully this will be achieved in the future.

Speed, strategy, team work and co-ordination are essential skills for Netball. It's about running, jumping, throwing, catching, attacking, defending, scoring goals and stopping goals. And just as importantly, it is about having fun, playing with friends.

The Islington Netball Club has been linked to The Access to Sports Project since 2004, to engage more young people to participate in netball as there are few junior clubs in the area. The club has three regular coaches and offers two regular netball sessions based at Sobell Leisure Centre and Finsbury Leisure Centre. Any participants in PL4S satellite clubs have the opportunity to join Islington Netball Club and attend any of the above sessions. The club have also entered a team into the West London Junior Netball League, where they will be playing against a number of different teams once a month.
