Arsenal beat off competition from a host of top European clubs to secure Havard’s signature in summer 2007 from Norwegian First Division side FK Haugesund. He made nine league appearances for them in 2007, and upon arriving at Arsenal he was handed the captain’s armband by Neil Banfield in the Reserve League South’s opening rubber against Fulham – a sign of the regard in which he is held.
The all-action centre-half led by example with a series of commanding and dependable performances at the back and notched his first goal for the Club in a 3-2 defeat at home to Birmingham Reserves.
Injury laid the Norwegian low for a chunk of the season but he was an unused substitute in the final Premier League match.
The long-time youth international started this pre-season with a place in the starting line-up for the friendly against Barnet in July 2008.
The defender will spend 2008/09 season on loan at Spanish second division club Salamanca.
