Nico Yennaris admits he would love another crack at the Arsenal first team.
The 18-year-old made his senior debut in the Carling Cup victory over Bolton three weeks ago, impressing with an assured performance at right-back.
Manchester City will head to London for next month’s Quarter-Final and Yennaris is hopeful of a second appearance for the Club.
“You never know, expect the unexpected,” he told Arsenal.com. “I'm in the manager's head now so hopefully he picks me and I'll just try and make the team.
“It was a great experience. It sounds bad but I got a bit fortunate with injuries so that gave me my chance. The gaffer trusted me, put his faith in me and it was great to go out there and get 90 minutes.
“I found out the day before that I was playing and it was just an absolute buzz from there on in. I thought I did pretty well for my first game. I got good feedback after the game so hopefully I can just push on from there.”
Arsenal’s Fourth-Round victory saw the welcome return of Thomas Vermaelen to the heart of the Arsenal backline - a player Yennaris says oozes class.
“Thomas is just unbelievable, you can see he's a winner,” he said. “He's a great presence to have in the team and a true leader on and off the pitch.
“Everybody knows how good he is so when he's back it's a big boost to the manager. He's a top-class player. When we're called up to train with the first team we are involved with the likes of him and he trains how he plays.
“The senior players were great on and off the pitch, especially Yossi Benayoun,” added Yennaris. “He gave me good advice all the way through and was encouraging all the time. He helped me relax and that just allowed me to play my game.
“Arsène Wenger sat us down as a team because there was quite a few youngsters in there. He did tell the senior players to guide us younger ones, and the other way around - for us to listen to them and take their advice.
“He just told us to go out there and be confident, relax and play our game. In the end that’s what we did.”Copyright 2015 The Arsenal Football Club plc. Permission to use quotations from this article is granted subject to appropriate credit being given to www.arsenal.com as the source
