Islington-born goalkeeper James Shea has joined Southampton on a one-month loan deal.

The 19-year old has become a regular for Neil Banfield’s Reserves this season and has provided valuable backup for the first-team following the injuries to fellow keepers Manuel Almunia and Lukasz Fabianski.

James will now hope to taste competitive action with the Saints, who currently sit fourth in League One and are pushing for promotion back to the Championship.

James was a member of the triumphant FA Youth Cup and Premier Academy League ‘double' winning-side of 2008/09 and, earlier this season, earned a surprise ‘call-up’ to the England squad, helping Fabio Capello and his players with their training preparations at the Club’s London Colney training base, ahead of the Euro 2012 qualifier against Bulgaria.

Everyone at Arsenal wishes James the best of luck during his time at St Mary’s Stadium.
