Six Arsenal stars are currently away from Arsenal on loan.
Defender Kerrea Gilbert will spend the entire season at Cardiff
while Fabrice Muamba, Nicklas Bendtner and Sebastian Larsson
do likewise at Birmingham. Elsewhere Arturo Lupoli will spend the
rest of the campaign at Derby and Matthew Connolly is with
League One side Bournemouth.
Keep up-to-date with the fortunes of all our loan stars in our
regular Loan Watch...
Fabrice Muamba, Sebastian Larsson, Nicklas
Bendtner
Ipswich Town 1-0 Birmingham City, January 1
Nicklas Bendtner played a full 90 minutes and was denied by the
crossbar as Ipswich ended Birmingham's six-game unbeaten run.
The Blues remain top of the Championship despite Gavin Williams
converting Gary Roberts' cross on 90 minutes to ensure all
three points for the Tractor Boys. Sebastian Larsson replaced
another Arsenal loanee, Fabrice Muamba, on 61 minutes. Bendtner has
now played 28 games for Steve Bruce's side, scoring 10 goals.
Larsson has made 30 appearances and scored on three occasions but
Muamba is yet to open his account despite 22 appearances.
Arturo Lupoli
Preston North End 1-2 Derby County, January 1
Arturo Lupoli was introduced with 21 minutes remaining as Derby
moved within three points of Championship leaders Birmingham with
an impressive victory at Preston. Steve Howard's 48th-minute
tap-in and a penalty from the same player just three minutes later
saw Rams boss Billy Davies get the better of his former club, whose
31-match unbeaten home run was ended. David Nugent poked home with
11 minutes left to ensure a tense finish but Derby held on. Lupoli
has now made 25 appearances for the Pride Park outfit, scoring
seven goals.
Kerrea Gilbert
Luton Town 0-0 Cardiff City, January 1
Kerrea Gilbert played 78 minutes as Cardiff's slump continued
with a goalless draw at Luton. Michael Chopra, Steve Thompson and
Stephen McPhail all went close for the visitors but despite the
dismissal of Hatters midfielder David Bell on 72 minutes the game
ended in a stalemate. Dave Jones' side are now eight in the
Championship having failed to win any of their last 10 league
games. Defender Gilbert has made 15 appearances for the Bluebirds
this term but has yet to score.
Matthew Connolly
Bournemouth 1-0 Brighton, January 1
Matthew Connolly was an unused substitute as Bournemouth grabbed a
last-gasp winner at home to Brighton and Hove Albion. Teenage
striker Brett Pitman pounced on keeper Wayne Henderson's
mistake to slot home in injury time. The win is only the fifth of
the season for the Cherries and they now lie 21st in League One
with 25 points from 26 games. Connolly, who joined Kevin Bond's
side in November, has made seven appearances so far, scoring
once.
Anthony Stokes
Anthony Stokes' loan spell at Scottish Premier League side
Falkirk has ended. The Irish teenager impressed throughout his time
at the club, scoring 16 times in just 18 appearances.
