Arsenal Football Club is pleased to announce that Islington-born goalkeeper James Shea has signed a new contract with the Club.
After excelling in the triumphant FA Youth Cup and Premier Academy League ‘double' winning-side of 2008/09, James played six times for the Reserves last term and has continued his progression this season, becoming a regular in Neil Banfield’s side.
Known for his superb shot-stopping ability, 19-year old James has also provided valuable first-team back-up to Wojciech Szczesny in recent weeks with Lukasz Fabianski and Manuel Almunia sidelined by injury.
Earlier this season, James earned a surprise ‘call-up’ to the England squad, helping Fabio Capello and his players with their training preparations at the Club’s London Colney training base, ahead of the Euro 2012 qualifier against Bulgaria.
Everyone at Arsenal is looking forward to James' continued contribution and development with the Club.Copyright 2016 The Arsenal Football Club plc. Permission to use quotations from this article is granted subject to appropriate credit being given to www.arsenal.com as the source
