On his side’s Eastlands performance…
“Well we won, that’s about all we can say. We shouldn’t have won in all honesty and we should have lost by two, three or four goals. This mob have got a little streak sometimes where they get a bit carried away. I think they thought after beating them twice [in the FA Youth Cup] it would be easy. They switched off a bit tonight and it was a disappointment.”

On Man City’s improvement from their Youth Cup clashes…
“They were much better and I think the kid Robbie Mak upfront performed like we thought he would have done in the FA Youth Cup. He’s a good player and he gave us a lot of problems and we didn’t quite handle him.”

On facing Liverpool in the Youth Cup Final later this month…

“I’m not best pleased because I think there are some little traits that sometimes creep in. they proved they have a little streak of arrogance that is to their detriment in many ways. But we’ll learn from that and if we perform like that against Liverpool we’ll get turned over. “

On Luke Ayling’s showing…

“I thought Luke Ayling was outstanding and Wojciech Szczesny was the man of the match. I don’t like saying that too often. We couldn’t get hold of the ball, we didn’t pass, and the only time we did we as when Rhys Murphy scored the winner.

“Luke deserves every accolade he gets because he works hard week-in week-out on every training day. He has been fabulous for us and he’s improved all year. People are starting to notice him now and it’s great for the kid.”

On making two Finals this season…
“We don’t pencil it in and I don’t really think about the trophies. We think we’re having a good year but we just hope one or two don’t get carried away and there is a danger of kids doing that. But that might have brought them back down to earth. I know we won but the performance was disappointing. “

On the pleasing aspects of the win…
“The plus points were the defensive character we showed but also getting Conor Henderson 45 minutes and Rhys Murphy coming back on and back in scoring form straight away.”
