Neil Banfield... impressed by Amaury Bischoff
Banfield: 'We can pass the ball a lot better'
On the performance…
“I think I will reserve judgement until I see it again on the DVD. I think tonight we are talking about whether we are happy with the 2-0 win or are we happy with the performance? I wasn’t too pleased with the performance to be honest. I think we can pass the ball a lot better than we did in the first half and I can't remember when we put three or four good passes together and opened them up with good play. I think we looked sloppy and lethargic in the first half and that is not acceptable.”
On playing the right way…
“Quick, passing football is how the club plays. There is nothing wrong with getting it to the front players and turning it around and I think you have got to do that sometimes. But we have four against two there at the back, let’s work the ball. It is about developing these young players to work the ball and play. At times we played too deep but let’s get them them to work the ball. I think in the first half we didn’t look like we wanted to pass the ball.”
On Amaury Bischoff…
“It was a very good strike and he has made the second goal so he has had a pretty big influence on the game tonight. The goal was a bonus for him, at the moment it is good for him to just be playing. We have said we will have a look at him over the next few months and every game is another step for him. He will get back to fitness and he will get back to playing in a competitive situation."
On keeping a clean sheet…
“I was quite pleased with the back four to be honest. I thought Gavin and Paul, Abu and Luke Ayling, right across that back line showed good application and good concentration and I think they did well tonight.”
On the next game against Spurs…
“It is always a good game against Spurs at every level, from the youth ranks right through to the first team. Hopefully we will equip ourselves very well.”
On the Carling Cup tie against Wigan…
“Wigan is another test for the lads and if they do well then you know it is showing the manager their talent. There might be three or four ready for a Premier League game. It is a good test for them against stiff opposition and we expect a win.”
