On Aston Villa...
"It was very good play from Aston Villa but I think also a few of our players are a bit blasé, a bit over confident and think they’ve got the divine right to play football and they’ve got their backsides spanked tonight.

"People talk about having guts and being brave but you’ve got to play. If people put you under pressure you need to be able to cope and deal with that. Fair play to Aston Villa, they closed us down but we’ve got to be able to deal with that."

On what he learned about his team...

"I learnt that a few of them think they’re better than they are. We will get on the training ground tomorrow and we’ll start working and hopefully they will take this lesson. To be honest it could have been six or seven tonight.

"These lads have played together for over a year and they’ve played for Steve Bould. It’s just that they’ve come out with the wrong attitude, thinking they’ve got the divine right to play. No one's going to allow Arsenal to play football, you’ve got to earn the right to play."

"We’ve done it in training, we’ve played quickly, we’ve played fast, we’ve made good decisions when people are closing us down. We’ve worked on hitting the front players and working off of them, they’ve learnt all that. Some of them think they can have a stroll-up on it, and they’ve got walloped tonight."

On the early second half improvement...
"I don’t think it looked like we could get anything from the game. Obviously Aston Villa are 3-0 up, we’ve scored a goal then we’ve gone and got somebody sent off which is unintelligent and he's feeling sorry for himself, it’s unprofessional."

On first starts for Emmanuel Frimpong and Tom Cruise...
I don’t really want to talk about individuals. We haven’t played particularly well, in fact we haven’t played well at all. I don’t really want to get involved in the individual performances.

On the prospect of facing Stoke...
"They’ve got to improve. You know what you’re going to get from Stoke. They won't be any different to Aston Villa, they aren’t going to let us play. They will work at their game and they’ll close us down but we have to be able to deal with it. If the players won’t deal with it, they wont make the grade."
