Martin Angha is one of the most recent players to sign professional terms with Arsenal and the young defender admits it feels great to know he has a future at the Club.

Since joining the Gunners as a scholar last summer, the 17-year-old Switzerland youth international has impressed for Steve Bould’s Academy side and put pen to paper in January.

“I’m very happy and I’m very pleased because it gives me confidence and belief that the Club trusts me and wants to keep working with me,” Angha told Arsenal.com.

“Liam Brady came up to me and, of course, I said yes straight away. I was very happy.”

So for Arsenal fans who may not know too much about him, what can they expect from the versatile defender who has captained his country at Under-16 level?

“I try to give everything, do my job properly and focus on the defensive work first,” he said. “Most of the time, I play at centre back for the Under-18s but sometimes I play at full back.

“I like to get forward when I am on the wings, get crosses into the box and get one-on-ones. That’s why I like to play as a full back.”

Angha made his full debut for Neil Banfield’s Reserves against Liverpool last Thursday and caught the eye with an assured display at left back as the second string ran out 2-1 winners.

“To make my first start was very good, I was very happy because I’ve waited a long time for it,” he reflected.

“It was even better that we won after not winning for five or six games. Liverpool are a strong side and we played well, created chances and I’m happy with my performance. I think I did well.”
