2011/12 Player Review: Zachari Fagan

As one of only three members of the Under-16s squad to progress into the academy at the start of the 2011/12 season, it was clear Zachari Fagan had plenty of promise.

Since then the tall defender has enjoyed a full campaign in the Under-18s set-up, although one slightly hampered by injury throughout February and March.

That said, the 17-year-old has made real strides forward. The nature of Arsenal's academy set-up requires young hopefuls to adjust to the physical demands of life in the youth team quickly, and Zachari certainly progressed as the campaign developed.

Next season the centre back will be keen to rekindle a partnership with Isaac Hayden at the heart of defence as he bids for an all-important professional contract.

Zachari was picked out for particular praise by manager Steve Bould after the Under-18s' 3-1 win over Ipswich in February. "He won a lot of headers and is starting to be a little bit more aggressive these days," said Bould.
