A January transfer deadline day arrival from Borussia Dortmund, Thomas made a solid start to his Arsenal career with a highly-encouraging display in the reserves’ 2-0 defeat of Swansea just a day after joining the Club.
However, an injury in that match at the Parc Y Scarlets stalled his progress and he did not make another appearance for the second string until April’s 1-0 victory at Newcastle. But it was Thomas who scored the only goal of the game with a neat finish after a sweeping move upfield, capping off another impressive performance.
The 19-year-old’s assured passing, confidence and technical ability were again on show in the second string’s final match of the season, at home to Everton, and will stand him in good stead ahead of his first full campaign for the Club. "I have settled down very easily because everyone here has been very nice," he said. "It was difficult at the start because I got an injury in my first game, but now everything is good.”
Expect to hear more of the name Thomas Eisfeld next season.
"I have a shot of Tomas Rosicky in my room and it is fantastic to play with him. I have never met him but in my opinion he is a great player and I focus on his game. I watched every game he played in Dortmund but I play a little bit differently."
In his second game for the reserves, against Newcastle, Thomas collected a pass from Josh Rees in the box, took a touch and sent a firm shot into the corner for the only goal of the game. It was an assured finish from an assured performer.
