Jon Toral joined Arsenal last summer from Barcelona alongside exciting full back Hector Bellerin. But sadly for the midfielder, his promising season was cut short prematurely by injury.

Up until his setback in January, Jon had been influential in Steve Bould's Under-18s side. Like his other first-year scholars, the Spain youth international impressed from the off.

Jon's performances attracted rave reviews and it was not long before he earned himself a debut for the reserves at Aston Villa. He would feature off the bench once more before injury struck.

It is a testament to his promise that he signed a professional contract on his 17th birthday. The only way is up for Jon, who looks set to feature in next season's NextGen Series.

“I saw Cesc Fabregas moving to Arsenal and other players from Spain going to clubs like Liverpool and it was clear that if I was to progress as a player I would most likely need to come to England. I enjoy the game here and the Premier League is the best in the world in my opinion. When Arsenal expressed an interest in me it was a dream come true.”

A sweeping counter-attack in the 5-0 win over Portsmouth in January ended with a goal from Jon. Serge Gnabry led the charge upfield, spraying the ball out to Bellerin who found his compatriot to finish off an excellent move. "It is a move that we have been taught at Barcelona since a young age and Hector said that he knew I would be there, he did not have to look up.”
