On the team’s performance…
Overall I was quite pleased with them really. It’s a different kind of side and we’re just bedding them in, we’ve made a couple of defensive mistakes and we’ve got punished. Overall though I’m pleasantly pleased.

On those ‘defensive mistakes’…
They all work as a group so I’m disappointed they’ve made them. They have to learn from their mistakes and hopefully in the next game they will rectify them. If you look at the two goals we have conceded they are two headers inside the six-yard box so I think it’s self explanatory [the mistakes we’ve made]. With two young central defenders you are going to get that because they haven’t played together. No excuses but they’ve learnt their lesson today.

On the positives to take from the game…
I think the spirit and the way we kept trying to play our game. Under pressure we really tried to move the ball around so there are a lot of positives to take from it. When you play Aston Villa it’s always a tough game and I said to them today this will be a good game. Some have realised what it’s all about.

On what his team will learn…
Yeah without a doubt they will learn more from this [than if they had won the game]. That’s the way you judge your players, as I say to them this is where you get judged, this is where you’re fully assessed. They’ve worked hard. One or two could have done a little bit better and one or two have done well.

On the start to the season…
We’ve had a really good start. Overall I’ve been really pleased on the development side, there are lads pushing through to the first team and that’s great for the Club. That’s what we’re all about.
