on the victory...
It's my first taste of action this time around. I was pleased because it is always nice to win, no matter who you are playing or where you are playing. The performance was also close to what I expected and so that stops you from being too disappointed.

on the most pleasing aspects...

I thought we passed it reasonably well in the first half without really having the cutting edge required. From box to box we were OK but we didn't defend our own area particularly well, especially on the goal.

Credit to Boreham Wood, they worked hard, defended quite well and got blocks in when they needed to. But as the game wore on, one or two opportunities came about and we were able to penetrate a little bit more and get in behind them. That is where the goals came from in the end. I was pleased and it was a decent performance.

on battling abck from a goal down...

I think it is important that players know that being a goal down never means you are out of the game. You just have to work that bit harder to get back into it and I think they did just that.

on pre-season...
Pre-season is all about fitness and getting the conditioning right. That comes from work on the training pitch and then playing games. We are hoping that the players all stay fit and well and come August they should be ready.

on his personal transition…

It is always different and always a challenge when you take over a new role. While it is one I have done before it has been a few years in between since. I have been used to trying to get three points twice a week for the last 20 years.

But within all of that I have always had a love of development and passion for that side of the game. That is the most important thing for me now, trying to help push through the next generation of players for Arsenal's first team.
