on a positive end to the season…
It was really pleasing but unfortunately we couldn’t get the goal at the end. Coming to a stadium like Old Trafford, after getting off a plane from Dallas on Tuesday, I think the players have done really well.

on controlling long periods of the game…
I think we did. If we scrutinise our play, maybe we could have done a little bit more running off the ball to open them up a bit but we have played some nice football and I’m really pleased with them. The most important thing was Thomas Vermaelen who was coming back after a long time out.

on Thomas Vermaelen’s return to action…
Thomas has been a terrific professional in the dressing room and I thought he came through the game well. The young players can learn from his experience, the way he conducts himself and his approach to games.

on a competitive game…
It was two good sides who were organised and it was difficult to break them down. Sometimes it is hard to break good sides down, you have to be patient. I thought we were a little bit unlucky once or twice but James Shea has pulled off a wonder save at the end. I’m a little bit disappointed with 0-0 but I accept it.

on James Shea’s crucial late save…
I was a bit shocked by it really! What a save! He got one hand to it to push it onto the bar and I’m really pleased for him.

on Arsenal’s penalty appeal…
It looked like a penalty but it happens and you just have to get on with it.

on the Reserves’ season…
I’ve been really pleased with the Reserve League this year and the way we have played. But also with the development cycle. We started with a different side at the beginning of the season, who have gone out on loan, and a younger team has come through. We have seen one or two start to blossom.
