on a resolute display against Aston Villa...
"Yes, I'm delighted with them. I think that's a part of the game that is so important. I've just said to the boys in the dressing room that it's not necessarily about the games where you win three or four-nil, it's these kinds of games that you battle out a point, you dig out a point. We rode our luck but we had three or four chances to be fair. I told them that these are the games you will make your careers with, so remember how tough it was. I'm really delighted with them."

on dealing with the conditions...
"I've got to say, to be fair to Hinckley, they've done really well to get the game on [considering the recent weather]. The conditions were difficult but we still felt we played some good football as well. Overall I am really really pleased with them."

on instilling a work ethic into young players...
"I think they come through the academy system where they do dominate games and they come to places like this with Villa, who are a good side who work hard and test you. You have to get them up to the level that is required because they could buckle. But they know now that is the level they have to achieve if they want to have a chance of a career in football. Hopefully they will learn from this, it was a really good lesson tonight."

on his vociferous support from the touchline...

"I think when they are young players they need to get to a certain level, and if they can't do it themselves you have to force them sometimes to get up to that level. Some of them don't, but some do and tonight they've responded. That's the level they need to get to for a chance to become a professional and earn a living in the game. Once you get them to that level you can step back and step off them, because they mature and they can do it on their own. But at times you have to bring them up to the level that is required."

on Reserve-team debuts for Cedric Evina and Benik Afobe...

"Benik has done really well for Steve [Bould], he's a 16-year-old in the youth side, he's forced his way in. And to be fair to Benik tonight he's meeting up with the Under-16s so he travelled along with us and we used him. Cedric has been with us for 18 months full-time, and he is coming through and doing quite well. He has got a taste of it tonight and he has done well."

on the Reserve League fixture list...

"I think the reserves structure needs looking at for the development of young players. We want that consistency through the Reserve League because the players can lose their rhythm if they don't have a game for a couple of weeks or even longer. They can't get into the rhythm of playing week-in, week-out. Also it's about preparing for games. When you are in the first team you play on Saturday, you then regroup and go again on the Wednesday, and these players don't learn that until they get into the first team. So that's why they need a regular game."
