On what pleased him about the win...
Not conceding a goal. [In the] first half I felt we looked very compact and quite solid. Overall I think we shaded it today. Coming back after a getting a real tonking at Villa, the lads have shown character. A lot of the lads played on Thursday in a really tough game and they’ve shown great resilience and character which I’m really pleased about.

On bouncing back from defeat at Aston Villa...
The manager says “talent is not enough”, and it isn’t. Some of these [players] may have got a bit blasé and they got spanked up at Villa. I think they realised what football is all about. It’s about the nuts and bolts of football: talking, marking, staying with your runners - the other side of the game. Today I was really pleased with that.

On putting that result behind them...
We all learnt a harsh lesson but I think we’ve learnt from it, taken on board what the failings were and we’ve moved on.

On keeping a clean sheet...
Danny [Boateng] and Ignasi [Miquel] have done really well this year, Sead is coming in and it’s starting to mould again for some young players. We’ve got some really good games coming up and we go to Chelsea soon which will be a really tough game. We go to Manchester United as well so it’s good for them. It’s a good test for the players because these are the games you want to be assessed in, against really good players. Let’s put [the Villa defeat] down to a one-off because we have resumed [normal service].

On two tough games against Chelsea...
Arsenal and Chelsea are two top-level academies and they have both got top players. That’s what it’s all about, playing against the best. That’s where you develop your top-class players. I think we’ve seen in the two games we have had, last Thursday and tonight, that these are the games we want to be playing in. That’s the grounding for developing young players.

On a run out for Carlos Vela...
Carlos has been fantastic. The manager has asked him to have a game and he’s come in with a fantastic attitude and worked for the team. Maybe he got a little leggy at the end but he’s come through 90 minutes.
