on the performance…
We had to deal with certain aspects of the game defensively, which hopefully is a learning curve for them. Football involves a lot of different things, it is not all about teams that try and pass the ball through you or go at you in one v ones. You have to be able to deal with balls into the box. Really we didn't do that as well as I would have liked us to. I thought there were too many balls into our box, which caused us a problem and really should not have done. That is just one aspect of the game that the players have to be aware of.

on the positives…

I thought we passed the ball fairly well and we had reasonable control in between both boxes, which we have done all the time. In the first half we did not have any penetration, although we had shots from outside the box. A couple of times Serge Gnabry got behind them down the left but we did not do that enough. I thought in the second half we might get between the lines and cause them a few problems. Maybe we should have had another goal or two.

on a good start to the second half…
We had a couple of decent chances. Sanchez Watt got in down the left and I thought he might score, and Jernade Meade also did the same. Conor Henderson was always in and around the edge of the box and might have just done a little bit better with his final shot. There were situations where we could have done better but that is the hard part of the game - putting the ball in the back of the net.

on including youngsters who travelled to Asia…
The lads that have come back here have done alright. Although they have been away with the first team, the standard is close between them all. I thought the two central players [Nico Yennaris and Chuks Aneke] did what they had to do. They come in, they play their games and take their chances like everybody else.

on Thomas Eisfeld's positivity…

He is quite a clever player and relies on other players to get the ball to him quite a bit. He can find space and does look to do the right things.

on the new Under-21 league…

I don't really mind what they call it because it will still be a reserve league really. The structure of it forms a decent games programme but then it always has done. It will be what it is - a platform for players to come and play in, whether they are ones the boss wants to give match fitness to or younger players coming through.

Clubs should do what they want to. If you want to play a team of Under-18s, then play them. Because that is what it is about; development and getting players through. If you want to play older players who can just about get in there then that is up to your club. But I think we will play the best players who we think have a chance of getting into our first team. If they are 16 and good enough they will get in there, and that is how it should be.

on the loan system…

I am a big fan of the loan system because players want to play in first teams, which is what it is all about. If you can't get into Arsenal's first team, somebody wants you and the Club are willing to let you go, then that is good experience for them. I think it has been proved historically in the past during my time - Martin Keown went out on loan and got into Arsenal's first team. I know people like Jack Wilshere also did it in the past, so it has proved a good vehicle for players to show what they can do.
