on the performance…
I was really pleased, not just with the result but with the overall performance. It was very encouraging. There are a lot of players who are still very young: [Chuba] Akpom is just 16, Kris Olsson and Hector Bellerin came in too. So there are lots of players there that will benefit from playing in this fantastic stadium and being tested against more senior opposition.

on Damian Martinez's red card…
I guess if you take it on that incident then it is a penalty and he has to go. But I think the lad was about a metre offside before he was played in and those are the things that if the decision is right on that, the next decision doesn't get made. But if the referee and linesman haven't seen that, from what he does see he hasn't really got another option.

on James Shea's performance…

Goalkeepers make the difference when they make saves and change games. In the five minutes after we had gone down to 10 men he probably made two outstanding saves that kept us in the game. While you are 1-0 down you always feel as though you have a chance of getting something out of the game. That proved the case.

on Thomas Eisfeld
I was pleased for him because if you get into those areas then you have always got a chance. Sometimes you have to do the work to get there, which is important. It is not just about being on the ball and being technically good, you have to make runs off the ball, work hard and look to make something out of nothing. He did that.

on Conor Henderson's free-kick…
It was a great strike but the players did well in the build-up too. Serge Gnabry did well and Chuba too, so I was pleased they linked up quite well before we got the free-kick.

on the Gnabry-Akpom relationship…
They are both intelligent footballers and as long as they keep showing that and repeating what they are good at [they will do well]. That is what football is about really, repeating those habits week in, week out.

on Arsenal's penalty…
Jernade has a great attitude and has been first class over the last six weeks. I was pleased for him to have a bit of end product to get his cross in just before that. He did very well.

on playing at Emirates Stadium…
It is fantastic. Hopefully it will give them an even bigger appetite - although they should have it already because they are at Arsenal Football Club. They have experienced the stadium with a 4,500 crowd and can now wonder 'what if?' They will want to get into that first team and come here when it's full.
