On whether he was satisfied with the performance…
Yes I was, for the majority of the time. We’ve given away three bad goals and we had to remind some of the players what’s expected of them. But, overall, I thought the majority of the team did really well tonight.

On facing a team full of Premier League experience…
They were a very experienced side that had a go. The West Ham players were a credit to their profession and they worked hard at their game. I was speaking to Julian Faubert afterwards about how much they put into the game and I told our young players ‘look at them, they are doing it properly’. And that’s what it all about.

On lessons to be learnt…
Good and bad, I hope they learn from the mistakes they have made. They have got to realise that in the real world, you can’t make mistakes like that or you’re going to get punished. You have to do your job, when the ball comes into the box you have to mark and head. And if you don’t do that, it’s no good having plenty of possession and then not marking when the ball comes into the box. It’s the fundamentals of the game.

On the response in the second half…
I was delighted, I said to them ‘we’ve played well but we’ve given three goals away that we should have dealt with better’. I made a couple of changes and I think in the second half we were a little bit lucky from time to time but we’ve showed spirit and willingness to work at our game.
