on starting the season with a win…
Whenever you play Manchester United, at any level, it’s always nice to win the game. I thought the lads played really well tonight. I was pleased with the work ethic, the effort they put in, their closing down, winning second balls and helping each other - the nitty-gritty side of the game. Competing, not coming second and wanting to win.

on the work ethic of his team…
The whole side was excellent. Their work ethic was superb and that is what the manager instils right through the Club. They did that tonight. You have got to win second balls, you have got to track back but when you get the ball you have got to play. Overall, I’m delighted.

on getting a win over Manchester United…
They are a fantastic club, as are we, and I was really pleased with the performance. We enjoy the victory but now we prepare for Wigan next Tuesday with the training and their development.

on a very positive performance…
I thought the game was played at a good intensity for the lads. I always say to them, this is where they are judged. Monday to Friday they train hard and we assess their development but when they step across the white line, that is their test. That is where they have to do the right things and that is where they are going to earn their career. I think a few of them are starting to mature and realise that.
