Nicklas Bendtner puts his famous pink football boots and a signed Danish national team jersey up for auction at eBay.com.
The money from the auction goes to the Danish charity cycling team, Team Rynkeby, which supports a Danish fund for children with cancer.
This summer, 273 Danes – including the Danish Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen – biked from Denmark to Paris with the Danish charity bike team, Team Rynkeby, to raise money for the Danish organisation, Børnecancerfonden (Children's Cancer Fund), which supports children with cancer.
Team Rynkeby’s fund-raising has impressed Bendtner and he will donate his famous pink football boots and a signed Danish national team jersey for the team. Of course the striker wore these very boots when he scored the decisive goal in the Champions League match between Arsenal and Dynamo Kiev at the Emirates Stadium in London on November 25, 2008.
“Team Rynkeby is a great charity initiative that has set the work of Børnecancerfonden on the agenda in Denmark throughout the summer,” Bendtner said. “The many volunteer riders and helpers have been very competent at exciting and engaging thousands of Danes in a good cause. Such an initiative deserves respect, and that is why my family and I have chosen to support the team.
“Our visits have touched me deeply. It is so hard for the whole family when children are affected by a disease like cancer. Therefore, it is also incredibly admirable, when organisations such as Børnecancerfonden takes on the responsibility for helping children with the disease.”
Bendtner played and scored in the national team jersey, which is now offered for sale on eBay.com, when Denmark met Portugal in the crucial World Cup qualifier on Saturday. The pink boots and the national team jersey are sold separately, and the auction started on Saturday, September 5 at 7pm and runs until 19.00 on Sunday, September 13, 2009.
