Talk is cheap for Arsène Wenger right now.

The Arsenal manager has been subject to intense scrutiny after a disappointing start to the season and everyone seems to have an opinion on the Emirates Stadium club at the moment. Wenger is not deaf to the criticism but he has tried to turn down the volume in order to turn around his season.

“It is not down to me to judge [their words],” he said. “I have to take that with a bit of distance.

“I just think it is part of life today. Football is a very popular sport and there is a lot of competition in the media.

“Everyone wants to make headlines in society and when you are in a big club you have to be strong enough to live and deal with that.

“I feel it is a good test but it does not mean everything that is said is right. People talk because it is their job to talk. You can understand that.

“When you talk a lot, you are not always right. It’s too difficult to always be intelligent when you always talk. That is impossible for anybody so you have to let people talk.”
