Wenger - Win percentage speaks volumes

Arsene Wenger says Arsenal’s exceptional win percentage rate in 2013 should strengthen their belief they can achieve “something special”.

The Gunners ended the year having won 64.8 per cent of their games, the second highest total in the Club’s history.

Wenger is delighted with the progress his side have made, but says they must now use it as the basis to take themselves to the next level.

“It says a lot,” he told Arsenal Player. “Unfortunately until now it has not been crowned by a trophy.

"It is a basis to achieve a trophy and that long consistency must reinforce and strengthen our belief that we can deliver something special this season"

“But it is a basis to achieve a trophy and that long consistency must reinforce and strengthen our belief that we can deliver something special this season.

“That's what it can be used for but of course it is a remarkable achievement because Arsenal has an especially strong and long history. That tells you that these players are doing something special.”

Arsenal won 35 of their 54 games over the past 12 months, and while Wenger is satisfied he hopes his side can improve further in 2014.

“You can always do better,” he said. “I would be really happy if we won every single game and scored 200 goals and conceded zero but overall it's a decent record. That shows what is the most difficult to achieve is consistency.

“Also it shows a trend that the team is on a way upwards and that is the most pleasing thing because from January until December, you could see that the team is getting stronger.

“I personally must say it was a privilege to experience that year with my players because they not only have class on the pitch but as well off the pitch they have shown a remarkable behaviour and it is a privilege to experience that.”
