Arsène Wenger will end Jack Wilshere's 20-month wait for Champions League football on Tuesday night.
The England international was sent off in his last appearance as Arsenal went down 2-1 to Manchester United on Saturday and there were some doubts over his participation at Schalke as he continues to build up his fitness.
But Wenger is happy with Wilshere’s progress and looks set to start him in a European game for the first time since Arsenal were knocked out by Barcelona in March 2011.
"I think I will play him tomorrow," said Wenger.
"Then we have a block of three games and maybe the fact that he gets a period of recovering will be just right for him. He gets better in every game.
"I think the sending off [at Old Trafford] was very harsh, having watched it again," added Wenger. "Sometimes, I believe that slow motion doesn’t help the judgment. He went for the ball."
