The decision to move the FA Cup tie with Huddersfield to accommodate television coverage is the reason Arsenal are playing twice in three days, according to Arsène Wenger.

Everton visit Emirates Stadium in the Premier League on Tuesday just over 48 hours after Arsenal’s FA Cup Fourth Round tie against the League One side.

Normally a team is afforded at least a two-day break between games but, with a game against Newcastle on Saturday, Wenger has revealed he wanted to keep the extra day’s rest ahead of the long trip to the north east.

“It is television's choice and we wanted as well to protect the Newcastle game because we play four days later.

“It is [a big ask for the players] but it happened to us over Christmas, we were the only team who had that programme and we could cope with it.

“I don't like it when the muscle injuries kick in and hopefully we do not get more because that is not a good sign.”
