Arsène Wenger says he decided to rest Jack Wilshere against Fulham after close consultation with the Club’s medical staff.

The dynamic midfielder played the full 90 minutes against both Aston Villa and Fenerbahce, while he also featured in England’s friendly against Scotland.

Wenger left him out of the starting XI at Craven Cottage as a result but says Wilshere will play against Fenerbahce on Tuesday night.

“It is difficult because you don’t know how the body responds and when a player plays a good game he wants to continue,” the boss said.

“We have a good communication between him and the medical department. He played 45 minutes for England after two 90-minute [games].

“He had not played 90 since February. The numbers suggested he needed a breather.”
