Arsène Wenger insists that any call for a World Cup play-off replay must come from the French Football Federation.
Thierry Henry has come under fire after handling the ball in the build-up to France’s crucial equaliser against Ireland in Paris on Wednesday night. The goal eliminated Ireland from the World Cup and sparked a huge outcry.
Henry himself has called for a replay, admitting that it would be “the fairest solution” and Wenger agrees, insisting that a replay would ensure “justice for sport”.
But the Arsenal boss believes that the responsibility for a re-match – and the credibility of French football - ultimately lies with the FFF.
“I think the French Football Federation has to do that [call for a replay],” said Wenger at his pre-match press conference.
“Henry has done so much for French football that French football has to help him.
“The French manager is part of French football and I think the credibility of France going to the World Cup is depending on that.”
