Arsène Wenger says he will be urging his team to avoid extra-time and penalties when they take on Bradford in Tuesday’s Capital One Cup quarter-final.

Wenger’s side advanced to the last eight of the tournament after fighting back from 4-0 down to eventually beat Reading 7-5 after 120 minutes at the Madejski Stadium.

The Arsenal manager is determined to progress after 90 minutes on Tuesday night, especially considering that Bradford have won their last seven straight shoot-outs and beat Wigan on penalties in the last round.

“We have to win the game in normal time, yes,” Wenger told Arsenal Player.

“They [Bradford] have gained confidence in these types of competitions, and confidence plays a big part in that [winning shoot-outs]. Hopefully we won't need penalties.”
