Arsène Wenger believes Arsenal have the momentum to overhaul Tottenham in the race for third place.

Wenger’s side have won their last four Premier League fixtures to move to within four points of their north London rivals, while also creating a three-point cushion over Chelsea.

Wenger admits that there is still some way to go but has backed his side to make a strong challenge for third spot by the end of the season.

“We know what is in front of us is a massive task and we have set ourselves the target to go for it until the end of the season and take it game by game,” he said.

“I always said that when Tottenham were 10 points in front of us it was not impossible because we had to play them and because the Premier League is so difficult for everybody.

“I believe we have been remarkably consistent because in the last 18 or 19 games, it is true we had a blip, but overall we have been very consistent. We have created momentum and we want to keep that going, of course.

“It is fragile at the top because you have seen Liverpool, a good side, seventh in the league so it is difficult for everybody. But we have created momentum, we want to keep our focus on our results and on our style of play.”
