Arsène Wenger says it is imperative that Arsenal rectify their form as quickly as possible - and says the Schalke match is the perfect opportunity to do so.

The Gunners have hit a difficult patch after losing three of their past five matches, including a 2-0 home defeat to the German side two weeks ago.

And following Saturday’s loss to Manchester United, Wenger has called on his side to respond in a positive manner at the Veltins-Arena.

“[Our form] is a concern because we had a very promising start and of course we have gone through a difficult spell,” the manager said.

“We want to respond to that and rectify that very quickly because it is not only the fact we lost the [Manchester United] game but the way we lost it.

“In terms of the group, the fact that we lost against Schalke means it is important that we win [in Germany] and finish the job well. We are still in a strong position in this group but of course we want to come out with a good result.”

Wenger insists his side will not let their performance at Old Trafford affect them against Schalke as they go in search of a morale-boosting victory.

“We have analysed it, watched it and spoken about it,” he said. “We know that we didn't perform as well as expected. There is only one way to respond to that and that is to come out with a good performance tomorrow night.”
