Wenger - We must maintain recent form

Arsene Wenger says it is essential for his side to maintain their recent Premier League form if they are to secure a top-four place.

The Gunners face Tottenham in the north London derby on Sunday on the back of a strong run that has seen them win their last three league games.

Arsenal lie four points behind Spurs, and two behind fourth-placed Chelsea, but Wenger is confident his side will secure a Champions League place.

“In the last 12 games, we’ve won eight, drawn two and lost two,” he said. “We have got 26 points out of 36. Our record in the Premier League is quite good.

“What we want to do [is maintain that] in the last 11 games. I said after the Chelsea game that we cannot drop points.

“We go into every single match like it is a must-win game and we will have exactly the same approach [for the rest of the season].”

Arsenal have never finished below Tottenham during Wenger’s 16-year reign, and he does not believe there has been a shift in power in north London.

“It’s all down to the results on the football pitch,” he said. “The quality of our displays will decide that. Spurs have always had good teams since I came here.

“They had Ginola and Anderton before. They always had great players. We just focus on us and trying to win the game. That’s all you can do.”
