Arsène Wenger says his side must try to keep their confidence high if they are to improve their results over the coming weeks.

Arsenal have won two of the past five games, and were below-par in Saturday’s disappointing 2-1 defeat to Manchester United.

They face Schalke next in the Champions League, and Wenger is looking for a positive display at the Veltins-Arena.

“We have to respond as a team,” he said. “At the moment we get a lot of criticism for our game on Saturday - we have to take it on board but as well not lose confidence because of it.

“It is down to us to put it right. We have played 10 games, and six times away [including matches] at Manchester City, Liverpool, Manchester United and Stoke.

“Even if the situation is serious, it is not dramatic. It is only down to us to conquer. We cannot say it is alright and the performance on Saturday was alright. We want to perform better than that.”

Wenger is certain his squad has the right tools to turn the situation around, and believes the return of key personnel will have a major impact.

“I am confident we will bounce back and the team will find a rhythm with much better performances,” he said.

“It is down to quality. We were short in some positions on Saturday that we have to correct.

“I feel some players are still in an adaption period coming to our Club. Some players are coming back from injury, like Jack Wilshere who is getting stronger in every game. It will be rectified very quickly.”
