Wenger - We must continue to grow

Arsene Wenger says his team must “continue to grow” after they moved five points clear at the top of the Premier League.

The Gunners beat second-placed Liverpool 2-0 on Saturday thanks to goals from Santi Cazorla and Aaron Ramsey.

They face Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday before Sunday’s game at Manchester United, and the manager wants his players to maintain their intensity.

"I must say we had a good dynamic going forward, technically we were outstanding and defensively very strong"

“We passed [the test against Liverpool] in a convincing way,” Wenger told Arsenal Player. “I must say we had a good dynamic going forward, technically we were outstanding and defensively very strong.

“On a day when you win 2-0 you always speak about the strikers but I think our defence deserves great credit. They had a very convincing performance against Suarez, Sturridge, Moses and Coutinho and did not concede a goal - they did very well.

“The focus of the team and the togetherness you could feel from the outside, they refused to lose this game and you could feel that from the start. Maybe we were a bit edgy at the start but you could see that the concentration was there to win the game.

“You could not have predicted that after the first game [against Aston Villa] so let's enjoy it, take a lot of encouragement from it and continue to develop as a team. And as well be cautious and be on our toes, because we changed it in an emphatic way so let's make sure we continue to grow and not think 'OK let's have a little breather'.”
