Arsène Wenger insists football must continue to fight back against offensive chanting after Tottenham players were racially abused during their Europa League tie against Lazio.
Jermain Defoe, Aaron Lennon and Andros Townsend were subjected to taunts from visiting fans at White Hart Lane on Thursday night. In a separate incident, Chelsea midfielder Mikel John Obi reportedly deleted his Twitter account after suffering racist abuse.
Wenger believes football and its authorities must take a no-nonsense approach in the fight against racism.
“How we improve things is by being absolutely resilient to fight against stupidity. It looks like it will be an endless fight, but we have to fight against it,” he said.
“We have to fight against it, against stupid reactions in the crowd and certainly, we have to be tougher at every level against that.”Copyright 2016 The Arsenal Football Club plc.
