Arsène Wenger concedes that Robin van Persie may not feature in both the QPR and Fulham matches.
Van Persie’s injury-free year has allowed him to take the Premier League by storm with 34 league strikes in just 35 appearances in 2011. A brace against QPR would see him equal Alan Shearer’s 1995 record.
Wenger is keen to protect his star striker after a career hampered by injuries and will assess the Dutchman’s fitness after Saturday’s match at Emirates Stadium.
“It will be difficult,” said Wenger. “He will play tomorrow, then we will assess the situation with him on Sunday and Monday morning and make a decision.
“I don’t rule it out but he’s one of the players who has played a lot and you see again, against Wolves on Tuesday, he’s the guy who gives absolutely everything in every game at the moment.
“He knows, ‘I have to score’, so he’s always on the fringe of pushing himself. Let’s hope he can get through the next two games.”
