Arsène Wenger believes the standard of football in the Championship has improved over the last two seasons.

Wenger takes his Arsenal side to newly-promoted Norwich City at Carrow Road on Saturday - a team that currently sit ninth after 11 matches.

With Swansea City and Queen’s Park Rangers occupying the next two berths in the Premier League table, Wenger says the quality emerging from the second tier of English football has never been better.

“There is always a Premier League surprise package every year, and this season we have three instead of one,” he said.

“QPR, Norwich and Swansea are doing extremely well and it just shows you that the style of play has changed in the Championship.

“You see from the teams that have come up that the level has gone up in the lower divisions. I could feel that even in the FA Cup games against League One teams last season, which were very difficult games.”
