Arsène Wenger insists that he is not just building a team for the future - and his record proves it.

Arsenal are on the cusp of a fifth consecutive season without a trophy after their North London derby defeat left them six points behind Chelsea with just four games to play.

Wenger's investment in youth prompted former Tottenham star Glenn Hoddle to suggest that Arsenal always have a good team for the future, but not necessarily one for the present. The Frenchman disagrees.

"They are comments made after the game which Tottenham has won," said Wenger.

"You can say that Tottenham every year is in front of us in the future.

"But the fact is that we have played in the last ten years in the Champions League. I do not call that teams for the future."
