Arsène Wenger has defended Arsenal's record over the past five years as he prepares to face Chelsea this weekend.

Since Arsenal's ‘Invincibles' went through the 2003/04 campaign unbeaten the Blues have won three titles, three FA Cups and two Carling Cups.

Over the same period Wenger's side have lifted one FA Cup but the Frenchman called for some perspective ahead of Sunday's clash at Stamford Bridge.

"I am not happy we have not won the Premier League but we have not been completely in the desert," he said.

"We have been in the Champions League Final, we have been close to winning the Premier League. We have not been seventh or eighth. We have always been there.

"You have to acknowledge that Chelsea have been better than us in the last five years. We are in a league where teams win the Champions League - it's difficult.

"But we are in the top eight in Europe, we have never been higher than now in the whole history of the Club. You can't say we aren't ambitious to be No 1.

"Do you think I work 24 hours a day to wait for another season? Of course I want this to be the season and I will give absolutely everything for it to be the season. I want to win the game on Sunday and I'm convinced we will win the game on Sunday."
