Arsène Wenger will resist the temptation to add to his strikeforce over the summer.
Arsenal have paid for missing chances in recent weeks as they went out of the Carling Cup, FA Cup and Champions League. But, speaking before Sunday's defeat 1-0 at Everton, the Frenchman suggested he had ample attacking options in his squad already - when they were all fit.
"In the last five years, if you look at the record, Thierry Henry was our top scorer," he said. "This year Van Persie has played 18 games and scored 11 goals. But unfortunately he only played those 18 games. Adebayor and Walcott will score goals as well.
Wenger went on: "There is a lot of strength within the squad and we can compete at the top level. In the middle of the park we have Hleb, Rosicky, Diaby, Fabregas, Denilson, Gilberto and Song. What can you add?
"Up front we have Henry, Van Persie, Adebayor, Walcott,
Baptista, Aliadiere and also Bendtner who is coming back from
Birmingham. Where do you put all these players?"
That said, Wenger is on the look out for what he had described as "super, super class" players. The money is available but, as ever, he refuses to overspend.
He said: "I want to be successful [while] respecting completely the resources [we have].
"We know at the start of the season we have to pay so much money out for the stadium before we kick a ball. But we still can compete at the top level while respecting that.
"It [transfer money] is there if needed, and I want to be in a position where if tomorrow I find a super, super player who wants to join us, then I am able to say 'yes I take him'."
