Arsène Wenger was happy to see Theo Walcott called up for England’s friendly with Holland on Wednesday – even though the winger has barely played for his Club in pre-season.
Fabio Capello’s squad was announced on Saturday night just as the Arsenal players were warming up for their final friendly game at Valencia.
The 20-year-old got a first 45 minutes under his belt as the visitors went down 2-0 at the Mestalla. For that reason, Wenger welcomed Walcott's selection for his country.
“England are playing a friendly and Capello told me they would call him up so I am not surprised,” the manager told Arsenal.com. “He needs competition so if he plays it is good for us.”
