Arsène Wenger has no reason to believe that Robin van Persie can’t get fit and stay fit.

The Dutch forward has had little joy with injuries in recent years. He sat out most of last season with ankle ligament damage and has already missed a large chunk of this campaign after suffering another knock in August.

Van Persie is almost back to peak fitness after completing 70 minutes against Wigan on Tuesday night but some have suggested that it’s only a matter of time before he is sidelined again.

However Wenger is staying positive. “No, I never think it is inevitable he will be injured again,” he said.

“I think that maybe he won’t be injured again now for one or two years I hope.

“He is not injury prone in my opinion, no.”
