George Allison's record has finally been elipsed by Wenger

Wenger is Arsenal's longest-serving manager

Arsène Wenger has made history.

The Frenchman is now Arsenal's longest-serving manager, eclipsing the long reign of the man who succeeded Herbert Chapman and left a lasting legacy of his own - George Allison.

Fittingly this is also the 13th anniversary of Wenger's first game in charge against Blackburn Rovers. And the Lancashire club will be Arsenal's next opponents when they visit Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

Our comprehensive table below outlines the longevity of Wenger and Allison during their respective spells at the Highbury - or Emirates - helm.

Arsène Wenger's first official day as Arsenal manager was October 1, 1996. His first game in charge came 11 days later when Ian Wright's double saw off Blackburn at Ewood Park.

He went on to win the Double in his first full season in charge and added another in 2001/02. FA Cup triumphs followed in 2003 and 2005, sandwiching a magnificent unbeaten title season in 2003/04.

Wenger guided Arsenal to the Champions League Final in 2006 but just missed out on glory when Barcelona hit back with two goals in the final 13 minutes.

George Allison was appointed as 'secretary-manager' on May 28, 1934 but officially started his tenure on June 1. His first game in charge was a 3-3 draw at Portsmouth on August 25 of that year.

Allison won the 1934/35 title, completing a hat-trick of League successes for the club. He lifted the FA Cup in 1936 and another title followed in 1937/38.

Allison finished his managerial career with Arsenal at the penultimate League game of the 1946/47 season, a 2-1 home win over Everton on May 31, 1947.

When he left, Allison had been manager for exactly 13 calendar years.
