Arsène Wenger says Manchester United will miss Edwin van der Sar when he retires at the end of the season.

The 40-year-old Dutch goalkeeper was in inspired form as he kept Arsenal at bay with a string of fine saves during Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Old Trafford.

Marouane Chamakh and Robin van Persie were among those denied by acrobatic stops as Wenger’s side pushed for a goal and the manager believes Van der Sar will be a hard man to replace when he hangs up his gloves in the summer.

“He's one of the best goalkeepers in the world,” he said following the weekend’s FA Cup tie.

“No matter who they buy next season, if he stops, they will feel the difference because, not only does he have exceptional experience, he has exceptional talent."
