Arsène Wenger has praised the role of the team’s squad players in Arsenal’s recent Premier League run.

Yossi Benayoun and Tomas Rosicky helped make the difference on Wednesday night as the team secured a late 2-1 victory at Aston Villa - their eighth win in 10 league matches.

“[The result] showed the importance of the squad but also the quality of the spirit,” Wenger told Arsenal Player. “That makes a difference if you have players who come on that have a real desire to help the team.

“You always have a chance because teams have to fight so hard against us that in the last 20 minutes fresh players can have a big impact. [Benayoun and Rosicky] did and that’s why we were very grateful after the game.”

Laurent Koscielny has enjoyed a fine campaign to date, earning his first French cap last month as a result of his inspiring club form. The defender has earned widespread acclaim and Wenger believes it is justified.

“He is a special player and he is starting slowly to get credit,” said Wenger. “Let’s not forget that before the Man City game we didn’t know if he would play or not because he had flu.

“He doesn’t speak a lot but his performances speak for him.”
