Arsène Wenger has yet to decide whether Sol Campbell can deputise for William Gallas this weekend.
The 35-year-old came through an intense 90 minutes in Porto on Wednesday and, if he has recovered sufficiently, should partner Thomas Vermaelen against Sunderland on Saturday with Gallas still sidelined by a calf problem.
As revealed on Arsenal.com yesterday, Alex Song and Manuel Almunia are in line to return from knee and finger injuries respectively - although both face fitness tests on Friday. But Abou Diaby is definitely out after picking up a knee ligament injury and Wenger will make a late decision on Campbell's participation.
"We have to assess Sol this [Friday] morning and how he recovers," said Wenger at his pre-match press conference.
"He gave a lot on Wednesday night - he threw his body everywhere in the action. He finished quite tired but I have 24 hours to assess that.
"Manuel has a test in training and Song has a test as well but we lose Diaby so he [Song] should come in for him."
Andrey Arshavin and Eduardo are both still nursing hamstring injuries while Robin van Persie, Kieran Gibbs and Johan Djourou are long-term absentees.
