Wenger - Title party will inspire my players

By Richard Clarke

Seeing Manchester United lift the Premier League trophy on Saturday was the perfect motivation for Arsène Wenger to launch a more successful title bid next season.

Sir Alex Ferguson’s side saw out a nervy 0-0 draw with Arsenal at Old Trafford over the weekend to claim the 18th League crown in their history. Wenger admitted afterwards that Manchester United were worthy champions however watching them celebrate the victory could only spur on his side.

“You cannot see what we have seen on Saturday and not aspire to that,” he said. “We want to achieve that.

“It was a very important game for us. I knew that, for the future of the team, it was important to give a strong response.

“We’ve made good progress since the start of the season. We were quite in control on the pitch today we mastered well the space we had.

“But we had seven players today of under 22 years-old on the pitch. So why should we not hope to be even better next year?”
