Arsène Wenger has hailed the “positive energy” in his Arsenal squad after Sunday’s 2-0 victory over Liverpool at Anfield.

Wenger watched on as his side recorded their first win of the season while keeping a third consecutive clean sheet.

New signings Santi Cazorla and Lukas Podolski both caught the eye on Merseyside but Wenger was delighted with the unity of his whole team.

“I am very happy because overall we had a good team performance,” he told Arsenal Player. “We already had a good cohesion in the first two games but we lacked a little bit of change of pace. That is now getting into the team.

“You feel a positive energy in this team, a desire to play together and everybody is working together. I believe in midfield we were dominant and that of course plays a big part in the modern game.”

Wenger’s midfield controlled the game with Abou Diaby a key driving force alongside the creative Cazorla. The Frenchman was delighted with Arsenal’s blend in the centre and believes his side’s ball retention was pivotal.

“We had control and that of course allows you ambition because first you need to be capable of keeping the ball well, passing the ball well,” he said. “You need to feel comfortable when you have the ball and we could show that again.

“I think Diaby is getting stronger and stronger, we know the efficiency of Arteta and Cazorla is an exceptional football player. Every Arsenal fan has certainly noticed that already.”
