Arsenal are in the middle of the most decisive period of their season, according to Arsène Wenger.

The Gunners are currently second in the Premier League, two points behind leaders Manchester United but with a game in hand. The Red Devils travel to Emirates Stadium on Sunday, a week before Arsenal head to Chelsea.

Wenger believes that the three months from January to March are crucial to the title race, because after that some teams are condemned to a mid-table finish.

"It always gets easier towards the end of the season," he said. "A few teams have nothing left to play for anymore, so sometimes you get one or two more easier games.

"I believe January, February and March is always the deciding period, after it becomes a bit easier."

Arsenal have dropped just two points since the start of January but their next four fixtures see the Gunners travel to Aston Villa and Stamford Bridge, while hosting Manchester United and Liverpool at Emirates Stadium.

"It is an exciting period for us because we are in a very good position," said Wenger.

"I make it a good opportunity to strengthen our position in the League. That is how I see it.

"We have a good level of confidence and know that with so many big games, psychologically it is important to go in with a high level of confidence, so every result has an influence on the next one."
